Everything You Need to Know
Veterans & Survivors Pension Benefit
The VA's needs-based Veterans Pension (and Survivors Pension) programs provide monthly payments to qualifying wartime veterans age 65 or older or with a qualifying disability, and to their eligible survivors. These programs have their own income and net worth limits set annually by the VA, separate from Lifeline's own income test, and receiving either one is a direct Lifeline-qualifying pathway.
Documents That Work
- Your VA Pension or Survivors Pension award letter
- A DD-214 or other proof of service may be requested by the VA when you first apply for the pension itself (not required for the Lifeline application if you already receive the benefit)
Other Paths for Veterans
Many veterans also qualify through Medicaid, SSI, or straightforward income-based eligibility, so if you're not receiving VA Pension specifically, you likely still have another path in.
